7 on, 7 off

7 on, 7 off

Seven days on, seven days off, is the life of a hospitalist. I enjoy my time on service doing my part to diagnose, treat and coordinate the care of my patients. I also love taking time off to decompress and enjoy my family. This past week we took a short trip to Louisville. We tried out a local ramen spot which turned out ok! Afterward we hung out at the river. There was a contest  to see who was better at taking pictures (my wife’s skills turned out much better). That night we went to barn8 and I had some bourbon, Luka had milk and leiya had orange juice lol.

There was a peds cardiologist at the bar and he shared stories of his time in Japan. He had a lot of neat stories about their food and jazz scenes. I cannot wait to go! Plus my in laws are still there, eager to meet their first grandson! The next day we ate tacos and went for a long stroll in the park/nature trails. Upon our arrival to the park, we discovered that Luka blew up his diaper. Thus, we had the wonderful experience of giving him a road side bath with a gallon of water, wipes and a swift change of clothes. What he did to that diaper was mad disrespectful.

Once we got him changed we went on a nature trail. The droning noise of the  cicadas, the sounds of the streams and rustling trees were very calming and made the experience that much more enjoyable. After a long walk, The smith crew were all exhausted and ready to go home! Not sure where we will go next, but I’m down for another hike. I think Luka is up for the challenge, so long as we keep his diaper clean

Out of all the seasoned doctors ive talked to, not one of them has mentioned wishing they published more papers, worked more hours, or contributed to some great discovery. Rather they wished they spent more time with their families, especially in their youth. Although I love achievement as much as the next person, I love my family way more, poopy diapers and all 💩
